The filming of the N.W.A biopic Straight Outta Compton didn't bring up a lot of painful memories for DJ Yella, but it did bring him a lot of feelings about the death of Eazy-E.

In an interview with XXL, the producer talked about the film, the actor who played him and why he wishes the movie was longer. Yella cleared up a lot of rumors that were spread during the filming of the film. In addition to Suge Knight's hit and run case, Yella and MC Ren were reportedly upset over the film's promotion since it originally focused on Eazy-E, Dr. Dre and Ice Cube. Yella says it didn't bother him as much as the rumors stated and says he understood the process in getting the word out about the movie.

"Everybody got their own opinions or something, but that's just the way promotions was going," he said. "It had to focus on the three at first [Eazy-E, Ice Cube and Dr. Dre] and now it's focused on all five. I had seen the new trailers already even before he made those statements—Cube had sent me the new trailers—and it was just a matter of timing, that's all. Now it's all about all our names is on the posters, all the billboards is all five characters, everything. So it was just all promotion; that's just the way they had it going on at the time. It's just business, it wasn't nothing personal."

He said the actor that portrayed him, Neil Brown Jr., did a great job of capturing his mannerisms "Um... It needed a little extra, a little more excitement to the movie and stuff," he said about the comical portrayal of himself. "My character wasn't really a funny character but does some funny things in the movie just to break it up so it wouldn't be so tense, so serious all the time."

One of the more challenging scenes Yella says is the moment Eazy-E is seen in the hospital. He said the scene hit an emotional nerve.

"Well, the weirdest part for me was the hospital scene," he said. "That was a little eerie right there. Matter fact I probably only stayed about an hour, hour and a half, I didn't even stay that long because it was just like, "Wow. Really." You know, they had some pretty good details of the hospital scene, stuff like that. That was probably the eeriest part right there, bringing back that memory. And then after seeing the movie, I think the last time I seen it I caught a little tear in my eye during that hospital scene again. It's a deep part right there, but you know, they made him look good. They didn't make anyone above him or anything like that; Eazy is the star of the movie and that's just the way it is."

Straight Outta Compton hits theaters Aug. 14.
