During a recent interview with DJ Vlad, comedian Eddie Griffin recalled being a popular class clown as a child and says that he only pursued comedy as a teen when his cousin bet him $50 to jump on stage. "We were bar hoppin[g], drinking and s***, and we hit this little comedy club up called "Stanford and Sons." It was one dry comedian after another," he recalled. Although Griffin says he was a jokester and performed at local talent shows, he says he never talked in front of an audience before. "I'm looking at that empty wallet n****, took a couple more drinks, and so I walked over to the little ol' manager and said 'You mind if I get up and do 5-minutes?'" He said, "That motherf***** handed me that mic, I did 45 and stood them up."
