You may know Andrew Schulz from Guy Code or even co-hosting The Brilliant Idiots podcast with Charlamagne Tha God, but before his recent success he was just a rising comedian who dealt with the common struggles of boos, laughs, and even physical altercations during his performances. During an interview with DJ Vlad, the comic talked about giving comedy a try, and performed at every and any club that would allow him, even "Hood Rooms," which was considered the Chitlin' Circuit of comedy for Blacks and Latinos.
One instance, in particular was a standup routine at a "Hood Room" that turned ugly, Schulz tells us that he was attacked in the middle of his bit. "I was on stage talking to a guy in the crowd—I wasn't that funny yet, but I was trying to do some crowd work—and I don't remember what I said to him, but he didn't like it, and felt kind of embarrassed in front of his people." He recalled, "He walks real close to me, and I'm like alright, whatever, I'm not even thinking anything is going to happen...and he just swings, punches me in the face."
