The prevalence of lean, which is a codeine and promethazine-based medication, has been on full speed since the brand Actavis discontinued the cough syrup in 2014. In the time that has passed since the brand announced discontinuation due to unlawful attention and popularization of the product, many have made claims to have a steady flow of lean, despite its limited stock.
Because of the limited amount of Actavis available, the company has received much flack for it. One avid supporter and consumer of the product, 2 Chainz gave his take on why Actavis was banned in the first place during N.O.R.E.’s Drink Champs podcast, saying it is because of Justin Bieber, amongst other factors. He said “They have fake Actavis. They have fake everything. And so I don’t drink red, green, all I do is drink Actavis. So when they said they were going to stop making Actavis way back when…Once Justin Bieber and a few other artists of high caliber started getting caught with this kind of drink. It started being something that they would post online so in my opinion, the company shut down, gave a warning that they’re shutting down. When they gave that warning, I didn’t believe them, but I kinda did. Because the price went up. So I bought a little extra.”
2 Chainz broke down his current usage of Actavis as seen in the video, mentioning that it has to be on special occasions for him to indulge, saying “It was the Beyonce tour, I had to perform for that. I had a video shoot with Lil Wayne yesterday, I know I gotta be geeked up to be around this n—a.”
