A Chicago rapper convicted in March of the 2014 execution of a local cab driver was sentenced to 38 years in prison on Monday (May 9). Savage Squad Records artist Cdai, born Courtney Ealy, learned that he will be away for nearly double the amount of years he has been alive, as he was read his fate at the Cook County Criminal Courthouse.  By the time he is projected to be released, the 21-year-old OTF gang affiliate will be pushing 60.

On March 18 both Ealy and associate Clint Massey, known as rapper RondoNumbaNine, were found guilty of first-degree murder for ambushing Javan Boyd on February 22, 2014.  According to reports, Boyd, who had been driving a cab to supplement his income, sat waiting for a passenger in Armour Square when he was approached at around 4 a.m. Prosecutors made the case that it was around that time when Ealy and Massey traveled to the Wentworth Gardens apartment complex with a group intent on retaliating for an earlier shooting. Surveillance footage of the 3700 block of South Princeton Avenue showed two men walk up to Boyd's Buick and exchange words before firing multiple rounds into the vehicle. Police recovered the cellphone Boyd dropped, and would discover his fingerprint on the car, pinning him to the case.  He and Massey were believed to have asked Boyd if he was from the area before unloading on him.

The family of the victim detailed how he had taken the driving gig as a second job, in order to afford him the opportunity to treat his daughters to gifts and outings. He was only a month into the job with the Pershing Livery service when his life was taken.
