R&B singer Keyshia Cole and elite boxing trainer Virgil Hunter have a lot in common according to a post the diva shared with fans on Instagram, Friday (May 13); not the least of which is their DNA. In the touching caption of a photo of Hunter lounging on an airplane flight, the platinum selling artist and television star shared that paternity tests have confirmed him to be her biological father.
"While in NYC I was overwhelmed with emotion, I explained while on stage at the Barclays, the situation I was faced with at that moment, which was, my father and I finding our way to each other, After 34 years. I knew at that time, a paternity test was in place, well the results are in, and this is my father!! His name is Virgil Hunter, and at this present time, I’m in Oakland spending time, getting to kno him! The story behind this is beyond me!!! God has his hands all in this!!! I’m so excited, So excited with taking this a day at a time!!!"
Both Bay Area natives were on their way back from time on the road, as Hunter just got through wrapping up his months-long commitment to training UK boxer Amir Khan for his fight with Canelo Alvarez last Saturday, and Cole is returning home for a short rest before heading back to the east coast to continue touring. Hunter also trains former Mayweather for Andre Berto, and top ranked super middleweight champion Andre Ward. Cole, whose music is famous for documenting some of the tougher dynamics of love, was a child of rough beginnings. Born to Francine "Frankie" Lyons and [we now know Hunter], she was adapted at the age of two by family friends Leon and Yvonne Cole. She later took on the name of her adopting family, who would support her way into the music industry at the age of 12.
