Mobb Deep’s Havoc recently did an interview with ThisIs50 where he discussed the group’s beef with Tupac, and how it actually worked in their favor.

In 1996, 2Pac dissed Mobb Deep in several songs and interviews with the most notable one being in “Hit Em Up.” At the time, the two young guys from Queens went back at him with the 1996 classic “Drop a Gem on Em.” “I was happy about it,” said Havoc. “The n***a saying our names. I didn’t know what the f**k the beef was about. I didn’t even care. I was like damn, did you hear that? 2Pac dissing us. We about to sell some records.” Havoc also revealed that they never “crossed paths” with him before his death in September 1996. “And we never got a chance to cross paths with him because he passed away,” he said. “I saw him from a long distance but I never met him. [I was a] fan. But didn’t even know him.”

The “Shook Ones” rapper also touched on working with Biggie for the song “Last Day” on his “Life After Death” album and touring with the late rapper. “Biggie was this like smooth cool dude, me and him never really chopped it up like that, but we worked together and it was what it was,” he said. “But touring with them, it was crazy because we toured a couple of places and the crowds used to get crazy. I remember one of those nights. When m**thaf***as was throwing up gang signs and Biggie and them had to go on and it just got so crazy that the whole club got shut down.” Havoc said they ended up leaving that show without performing, but still were able to keep the money since the promoter was not able to secure the venue.
