Kanye West continued to affirm his ambition to become President of the United States over the weekend, during an interview that is scheduled to air Monday night [August 1] on BBC Radio 1. The rapper/producer and fashion innovator's lofty goal was one of several he's maintained on his fans' radar over the past couple of days, including word that he'd like to design furniture for IKEA, and plans he's said are in order for adidas to produce $30 Yeezys. Despite the organizational nature of the presidential office, West told Radio 1 host Annie Mac that his decision has nothing to do with politics.

"When I talk about the idea of being president, I'm not saying I have any political views. I just have a view on humanity, on people, on the truth," said West. "If there is anything that I can do with my time and my day, to somehow make a difference while I'm alive I'm going to try to do it."

Fans will recall Kanye making the big announcement during his erratic Video Vanguard Award acceptance speech at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards, last August. Anyone doubting the man's sincerity might've been surprised to read him assess the amount of research ahead of him, as he confirmed that he is indeed set on making a run, in an interview with Vanity Fair the following month. During his talk with Mac, West gave a hint of some of the issues his 2020 platform will revolve around, touching on national and international concerns.

"We're numb. We're numb to 500 kids getting killed in Chicago a year, we're numb to the fact that it was seven police shootings in the beginning of July," he said.  "We’re numb to places on the Earth that we don’t live — like our life is okay but it’s okay for other people’s lives to not be okay.”
