A young Georgia teen was killed when he accidentally shot himself while playing with a gun during a live stream on social media this past Monday, April 10.
Malachi Hemphill had been showing the firearm off to dozens of viewers on Instagram Live around evening time when a shot echoed through his Forest Park home. Hemphill's mother, Shaniqua Stephens, and his sister rushed to his room to find him laying in a pool of blood by his phone, which they realized was recording. Within minutes of the shot going off it is reported that between 40 and 50 neighborhood kids rushed over to the front yard outside of the home, having witnessed the incident in real time.
Malachi was later declared dead at Grady Hospital. The incident is believed to have been an accident and not a suicide, as those who were watching attest to one of the viewers questioning why he didn't have a clip in the gun, prompting him to follow through in stuffing the clip, which caused it to go off.
