Bullets began flying on an Atlanta train, sparking chaos for dozens of public transit commuters on Thursday afternoon, April 13.

"Everybody's sitting down. It's quiet. After we pulled off, we heard a sound like a crash, like we ran into maybe a tree limb that was on the track. Then like three seconds later, I'm hearing pop, pop, pop," said Cedric Peterson of the frightening experience having taken place as he traveled his daily route home from work. "I look back and see a guy's back and see his outstretched arm. I'm like 'Yo, man, this is a shooter.'"

The gunman is reported to have fired off at the West Lake station at around 4:30 p.m. Four people were shot and one suffered an injury as a result of the stampede that ensued. "When we finally get it open, there's a whole crowd of people who came up behind us and we fall. We're laying there trapped, but I don't hear anymore shooting, so I'm feeling a little better," Paterson said, while giving an account of the moments that followed the sound of gunfire. He explained that there was a moment in which commuters attempted to rush through the door connecting one train car to the next, but they initially struggled to get it open.

According to Paterson it didn't appear as though there was any dispute leading up to the incident. "He was wearing headphones and just bobbing his head. There was no argument or anything. Then I heard the first pop," he said.

Two men and one woman who were shot remain in stable condition at Grady Memorial Hospital. One victim however [Zachariah Hunnicutt] was pronounced dead at the scene. While authorities continue to investigate for a motive, the shooting has been ruled a "targeted isolated incident."
