The music world has lost yet another legend. Jamaican singer Frankie Paul passed away Thursday, May 18th at the University Hospital of the West Indies in Jamaica. He was 52 years old.

His sister, Trina Clarke told the Jamaica Observer that he had been admitted to the hospital in April. He was suffering from kidney problems and had been on dialysis.

Paul was often referred to as "The Jamaican Stevie Wonder" because he was born blind. Born Paul Blake in Jamaica in 1965, he went to the Salvation Army School for the Blind where he met Wonder while he was in a trip to the island in the 1970s. That was Paul's inspiration to start singing.

Frankie Paul was a large presence in the Dancehall scene during the '80s & '90s. His biggest hits included "Worries in the Dance", "I Know the Score", "Stuck on You", "Sarah" & "Pass the Ku Shung Peng."

The Jamaica Gleaner says The Opposition People's National Party is paying tribute to Paul Saturday.

Meanwhile, many influential figures in Reggae music paid tribute to the crooner on social media.

Shaggy posted a clip of Paul during his last appearance on Jamaica's Irie FM in October 2016 saying, "We have lost one of our biggest voices in Dance Hall/Reggae today! #FrankiePaul R.I.P Frankie Condolences to the family."

Dancehall DJ Tony Matterhorn posted a video on his Instagram page with the caption reading in part, "...Frankie Paul was the king of soundkilling dubplates of all times. R.I.P to the greatest #soundkillerartist and one of the legend(s) who ran the dancehall for decades"

DJ Bobby Konders posted, "I would like to send condolences to FP's family, also celebrate the greatness of FP's music..."
