2 Chainz is not trying to be associated with the man purse [murse] fad that has been sweeping hip hop in recent times. The Pretty Girls Like Trap Music rapper put a message out to followers on Instagram on Wednesday [May 31], telling them not to get it twisted, before revealing his credentials so far as messenger bags go. He also went about clearing up some of the misconceptions about man bags by putting fans on with a brief history lesson.
“Let’s be very clear!! I been wearing Gucci from the beginning! I also been wearing messenger bags with racks in it!! This was symbolic of having bands," Tity said. "Messenger bags were started by BMF who we all know were street millionaires who inspired other people from the street, that being said that bag S*** started with us for us by us!!"
Such artists as Lil Uzi Vert and Young Thug have been stirring controversy for rocking bags that many perceive to bear a feminine look. Lil Uzi was carrying a burgundy Goyard crossbody bag in the photo Waka Flocka posted of him when calling him out for being more of a rock star than a hip-hop artist a couple of weeks ago. Then days after Uzi's fashion sense became a widely discussed topic of conversation, Young Thug came out on the PNC Banks Center stage in New Jersey with a Chanel bag hanging off of his shoulder. The posts have lead to a discourse among fans of the genre about whether hip-hop culture is flexible enough to stretch conventional bounds of gender identity.
