At 10:05 P.M. ET On Wednesday night [June 7], HBO Now will air a first look at director Benny Boom's All Eyez on Me 2Pac biopic. In checking out the 13-minute short, followers of the rap great's legacy will get a chance to see the development of the film in all its parts, including the transformation of 28-year-old Pac look-alike Demetrius Shipp Jr. from a novice actor to the reincarnation of one of America's most passionate artists.
A snippet from First Look: All Eyez on Me shows Shipp channel Tupac during the film's casting. It also get's the young actor's father, producer L.T. Hutton to recount what it was like realizing his son was about to play the role of a rapper he actually once worked with. "My assistant came and said, 'I don't know how to tell you this, but 2Pac is in the lobby,'" Hutton said, while recalling the eerie experience. "I walk out, and lo and behold, I'm like 'Yo, it's 2Pac.' This kid was 2Pac, in every sense of the word."
Also playing in the movie will be Jamal Woolard, who will be filling the role of Notorious B.I.G. once again. Fans of hip hop cinema will remember Woolard playing Big in the 2009 biopic, Notorious. They will be joined on screen by actress Danai Gurira as Afeni Shakur, Kat Graham as Jada Pinkett, and Dominic L. Santana as Suge Knight.
All Eyez on Me hits theaters on June 16.
