A Virginia man who beat his pregnant girlfriend off of her crutches in a convenience store last year has been sentenced to eight years behind bars.
Jamar Bernard Woody of Roanoke was caught pummeling Shatory Irving on surveillance footage that would be used against him in trial. In the video, Woody begins swinging on Irving, who was healing from an ankle injury at the time. Once on the ground, Woody proceeded to kick and continue punching Irving, before finally being ushered out by the store clerk.
While Irving denied being the victim of the attack and refused to give up any information that might incriminate Woody on the stand. The recording and testimony given by doctors revealed that she had suffered a gash to the forehead that exposed her skull. This was all the set of jurors needed to hear convict him.
“I don’t find that to be unreasonable,” Judge Chris Clemens said of the sentence he handed down, which exceeds the standard maximum Judges are allowed to give for the crime in VA, by two years.
