Nicki Minaj’s brother Jelani Maraj is currently on trial after being charged with predatory sexual assault against a minor. According to reports, the man allegedly raped his stepdaughter in 2015.
New details have surfaced saying the Nassau Country jury on the case was unable to reach a verdict after the first day of deliberations. During the trial, the victim testified and gave a graphic rundown of what took place with her stepfather at the time. Along with that, it was reported that her younger brother testified as well.
DNA evidence was presented, showing that Maraj’s semen was found in his stepdaughter’s pajama bottoms near her groin. Despite all the testimony and evidence presented, jurors still seemed to think there was a lack of evidence. Emma Slane, the Nassau County Assistant District Attorney, spoke to the jury and said they should believe the victim’s testimony because it was backed by DNA evidence along with another strong testimony.
Maraj’s lawyer spoke to the jury as well, saying that this entire ordeal was just a way for the defendant’s ex-wife to extort $25 million out of him. The lawyer also said the defendant’s ex-wife placed the semen in the little girl’s pajama bottoms and underwear. If Jelani Maraj is convicted, he could potentially receive the maximum sentence, which is equal to life in prison.
