Cam'Ron is back and buzzing after dropping a mixtape called The Program and a new Dipset single "Once Upon A Time." Aside from the excitement over the resurgence of the Harlem group, many are intrigued by Cam's closing lines on the track.
"No disrespecting the ladies, word from my team/That's the reason Dame smacked Harvey Weinstein/On the set of Paid In Full, y'all gave him hell about it/some foul s*** happened once Capo tell 'em 'bout it."
Paid In Full was distributed by Miramax, Harvey Weinstein's former company. There have been rumors about a scuffle between Dame Dash and Weinstein on the set of the film. Prior reports indicated that the issue between the two was because the movie was completed and ready to be released in 2000, but Dame said in a 2002 New York Times interview that Weinstein refused to release the film. Cam's bars, however, and Dame's interviews indicate that wasn't the only problem.
Dozens of women have come forward accusing Weinstein of various forms of sexual misconduct from harassment to rape. Following those accusations, Dame sat with Hip Hop Motivation for an interview in which they discussed Weinstein at length.
"I know that [Harvey] and I had a lot of aggressive interaction. And I know even culturally, like, my people would say things, like, I would see interviews with Wood Harris and with Just Blaze and all that, and they’d be like, ‘Oh he yelled at Harvey Weinstein. He yelled at the Weinsteins.’ But the bottom line is, like, when I look at somebody treat other people wrong, I can’t just look the other way. And any opportunity I get, I know I’m strong, but I’m always gonna make them suffer for the people that aren’t strong enough.”
