Thanksgiving did not go so well for everyone, as a captain on Riker’s Island was jumped by three inmates during the holiday. According to reports, 31-year-old Captain Awais Ghauri was the victim of a sneak attack while he attempted to walk through the Otis Bantum Correctional Center. The incident took place around 2 P.M. and resulted in one of the inmates throwing a vicious punch to his face.
From there, the footage shows the inmate beating the captain for almost 20 seconds until the officer was able to flip the inmate and begin his attack. Once the captain was able to get off a few punches of his own, another inmate came and attacked the captain. The captain's upper hand led to a third inmate hopping in on the action before the inmates eventually backed off.
Peter Thorne, a Department of Corrections spokesperson, noted an investigation was launched. Thorne went on to say “We will never tolerate the actions of those who harm our staff and we are working with the Bronx district attorney to arrest and prosecute any inmate involved in this incident.” Watch the vicious attack above.
