A dash cam video has surfaced from an incident between an officer and suspect where the officer fatally shot the man after a fistfight in Crandon, WS. As the video begins you hear the cop tell the man in the vehicle, “Stay right there, do not resist.” As the seated man replies, “I’m not” a tussle happens, and the cop warns the suspect, “I will fight you.”
The pair is seen wrestling until they get down on the ground for nearly a minute. At some point during the altercation, the police officer fatally shoots 30-year-old Dexter Baxter.
The incident took place on October 22, during a traffic stop where Officer Ryan Wilson was investigating a stolen TV. Wilson approached the vehicle as it was the same make and model of the car reported in the robbery incident.
The Forest County District Attorney says the officer was justified in his shooting of the robbery suspect. As Baxter resisted arrest and put the officer in a chokehold, which made Wilson unable to reach for his taser or the pepper spray to de-escalate the situation. He reached for his gun as Baxter gouged at his eyes, the officer says he told the suspect to stop, or he would shot. When he did not comply, the officer shot him three times.
