The death of comedian Ralphie May in early October was a shock to many, as the Chattanooga native was only 45. May had struggled with obesity his entire life, at one point even ballooning to 800 pounds after a car accident at 16 left him seriously injured and largely immobile for several weeks. Sadly, it looks like May's weight probably contributed to his premature death.

Las Vegas medical examiners determined May's death was from high blood pressure and heart disease. Nevada's Clark County Coroner's office announced the cause of death in a tweet Wednesday.

"Our Coroner/Medical Examiner has determined that Ralph May, 45, of Nashville, Tenn., died on Oct. 6, 2017, from Hypertensive Cardiovascular Disease. The manner of his death was natural. We extend our sincere condolences to Mr. May’s family and friends."

May passed away on Oct. 6 and his body was discovered the same day at a private home in Las Vegas.

His publicist said he had been battling pneumonia, leading to him canceling a few shows in the last weeks leading up to his death.

May got his big break in 2003 when he came in second on the talent competition show "Last Comic Standing."

He's survived by his wife and two children.
