LeBron James says he wasn't surprised to see Vince Carter shoot 10 of 12 for the highest score of the game on Wednesday night, December 27. Carter may be the oldest active player in the NBA, but it is with good reason, James believes.
“I mean, he made some bombs. He’s a Hall of Famer for a reason, let’s not take that for granted," James told reporters after their showdown at Golden 1 Center. "Once he got going, we couldn’t slow him down.”
Carter (24,636) may have scored 5,123 fewer points than Lebron James (29,759) has throughout his 20 seasons in the league, but coming off of the bench at age 40, his season-high 24-points topped the younger James' 16, and helped the Kings defeat the Cavs by a score of 109-95.
Since he hasn't been starting for the Kings, Carter became the very first 40-year-old in NBA history to drop 20 off of the bench. His 24 came on a night when 68 of Sacramento's points came from substitutes.
Carter was far more humble about the achievement when all was said and done, telling the press: “It’s not really about the points, it’s making a difference for our team in a positive matter."
