Unfortunately for one 55-year-old Arizona bound man crossing the border from Mexico into the U.S., Customs and Border Protection agents keep dogs capable of sniffing out narcotics.
Agents stopped the RV the guy was driving at the Port of Lukeville on Saturday, December 30. He was headed about 150 miles north towards Tucson but never made it due to a CPB canine having detected the odor of marijuana from his vehicle. It might have taken a moment to get clear on the presence of drugs in the RV, seeing how the driver had hidden all 2,448 pounds of it inside of the walls, floors, and storage compartments. With the dogs refusing to let up, authorities knew they were on to something, and soon recovered the 120 bundles of bud.
The street value of the product that was found is reported to have totaled $1,224,000. The CBP would seize the RV along with all of the drugs after taking photos of the bust. Several images show what the bundles looked like propped up in the vehicle, and one photo showed how expansive it all looked set down outside along the length of the RV.
The suspect who was detained was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
