Retail giant H&M has issued an apology after showcasing a black child model wearing a "coolest monkey in the jungle" sweatshirt.

"This image has now been removed from all H&M channels and we apologize to anyone this may have offended," said H&M spokeswoman Anna Eriksson. The photo of the child was used for an online store promotion (UK website). Many people on social media were highly upset, saying that the term "monkey" is noted as a racist slur.

One outraged Twitter user said: "Can’t be more confused and disgusted. H&M decided to put the black boy in a 'Coolest Monkey in the Jungle' hoody and the white boy in a “Survival Expert” hoody. Can’t believe it’s 2018 and this offensive sickening racism still exists. We all must boycott H&M till they apologize."
