The Sheriff's Office in Douglas County, Colo. has released police body cam footage taken during a shooting on New Year's Eve which left one deputy dead and three others wounded. A SWAT officer and two civilians were also injured during the engagement.

In a sobering video released by the sheriff's office on Monday, Douglas County Sheriff Tony Spurlock recounts what happened during the deadly encounter. The video has been edited to only show brief segments from various body cams of officers present at the scene.

Officers say they were called to an apartment twice in the early morning hours of New Year's Eve, with the first call being a noise complaint. Upon returning a couple of hours later, officers determined that the suspect, Matthew Riehl, was suffering from a manic episode and they made the decision to bring him in for an evaluation.

It was around 45 minutes after the officers began speaking with Riehl when he began shooting.

Deputy Zackari Parrish was shot and killed, falling at the entrance of Riehl's apartment.

Deputies Taylor Davis, Michael Doyle, and Jeff Pelle were also shot. Davis went out a window head first while Doyle and Pelle were hit immediately and went out the front door, according to the sheriff’s office.
