Video released by authorities in Houston shows the armed robbery of a northside check-cashing business that occurred as employees prepared to open up shop last week.
The doors of 1% Check Cashing in the 900 block of East Little York were still locked when a couple of armed men wearing hoodies, masks, and gloves sprung up on employees at the establishment before 9:00 a.m. on Friday morning, January 5. Baffled as to how the assailants gained entry, the workers were at first startled but quickly began to comply as the men aggressively ordered them to open up access to the cash registers and safe. Within moments the manager on duty had been pistol-whipped and loaded with an unspecified amount of cash the men were gone in what is reported to have been a four-door sedan.
Investigators would later discover a massive hole in the drywall of the men's bathroom. Because the store is located in a new strip center that has not been fully rented out yet, the space next store has been vacant. This allowed the suspects to camp out next door overnight and to eventually bash into the check cashing place, where they went undetected until the incident played out in the morning.
The suspects are believed to be Hispanic males standing at about 5 feet 9 inches tall.
