A tragic incident among the U.S. Marines occurred earlier this week in California. An 18-year-old Marine was stabbed to death. Authorities said that a U.S. Marine from the victim's unit had been arrested and is currently in confinement.
Private First Class Marine Ethan Barclay-Weberpal was ambushed by a fellow Marine at the Pendleton military camp outside San Diego on Tuesday morning, Marine Corps officials said.
The Marine suspected of killing the teenager was cuffed shortly after the stabbing. The suspect has not been identified, and a motive for this violent act has not yet been revealed by the Marine officials.
Ethan joined the service at the young age of 17 right after graduating from a Michigan high school last May and enlisting in the Marine Corps two months later, according to his father, Scott Weberpal.
According to a devastated family member, becoming a Marine was Ethan's dream for many years, and he was very proud to be serving his country.
Barclay-Weberpal's family launched an online fundraiser for funeral expenses that had nearly reached its goal of $10,000 Thursday afternoon. Relatives posted on the fundraiser page that, "Ethan was a vibrant young man who loved life and loves his family and friends."
