A football family from California is working to give LaVar Ball and his sons some competition for the number of professional athletes from the same parents.
In an episode of "Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel" which aired on HBO Tuesday night, reporter Bernie Goldberg gets to know John Brown, his wife Miriam, and their three sons, who have been groomed from a young age to be hyper-successful in both academics and athletics.
All three brothers are wide receivers. Equanimeous St. Brown played for Notre Dame and will be trying his luck in the 2018 NFL Draft, Osiris St. Brown plays for Stanford, and Amon-Ra St. Brown will soon be on his way to USC.
“It works," said dad John Brown in an interview for Real Sports. “You can say what you want. Some people thought I was crazy, but now they think I’m crazy as a fox.”
All three brothers also speak German, thanks to their mother, and get near perfect grades in school.
“Under the Southern California sunshine, a bombastic entrepreneur and father has spent the better part of two decades developing his three sons into world-class athletes," reads a press release about the segment on HBO. "That might sound like basketball’s Ball family, but this is the St. Brown family of football. Father John, a two-time Mr. Universe, set his plan in motion by marrying a tall, strong German woman, intending to create supreme athletes. Then, he meticulously controlled his boys’ caloric intake and weight training to fine-tune their bodies, while mother Miriam exercised their minds, encouraging them to speak three different languages."
