Funeral services were held today for late Chicago rapper Fredo Santana. Some close friends and family from his hometown of Chicago and beyond were in attendance to pay their respects.

Santana helped usher in a drill music movement that took hip-hop by storm in 2012. Santana along with other famous drill music artists, Chief Keef and Lil Reese, to name a few, paved the way for a lot of young Chicago rappers to make it out of their environment and get into the music business.

After releasing his debut mixtape in 2012 called It’s A Scary Sight, Santana released his much-anticipated debut album Trappin Ain’t Dead in 2013. The album included a feature from a young Kendrick Lamar on the single "Jealous." Santana regularly released music independently up until his final release from 2017, Fredo Kruger 2.

Santana, real name Derrick Coleman, died in late January as the result of kidney failure during a seizure at age 27. The rapper has had some serious health scares in recent months. Last October, he was hospitalized for liver and kidney failure and vowed to be more health conscious. Fredo Santana is a legend in the eyes of many young music fans. His presence in hip-hop will be missed for years to come.
