Detroit rapper Peezy is in the hospital recuperating from multiple gunshot wounds he sustained in a robbery that went down on in the wee hours of Sunday morning, February 4.
Fresh after returning from doing a show in Milwaukee, Peezy, real name Phillip Glen-Earl Peaks, was involved in a rap battle on the city's west side. Eastside Peezy, as he is often called, wound up winning the contest and heading home with a cool $2,000. Before getting home, the rapper pulled into a Citgo gas station at the 3600 block of Fairview Street. It was there that he was ambushed by a shooter and hit in the arm and torso. The suspect is said to have fled in a silver Chrysler 300.
While Peezy is yet to have struck fame beyond the D, his name has come up in discussions among celebrities talking relevant artists in the city. NBA star Andre Drummond, for example, is reported as having told the Metro Times that "The artist I like the most out of the D right now would probably be Peezy. He sounds real mean when he raps; I like mean."
By Monday night Peezy's condition had been downgraded to stable. He is said to be cooperating with an investigation into the attack.
