Thanks to the State Correctional Institution in Chester, PA granting inmates permission to tune in to Super Bowl LII, Meek Mill was able to watch his Philadelphia Eagles take home their first Lombardi Trophy with a 41-33 victory over the New England Patriots over the weekend. And thanks to NBC's Philly sports guy, John Clark, the public was able to receive a statement the rapper wished to release in honor of the historic achievement.
"...I felt especially proud to be from the great city of Philadelphia. All the heart that the Eagles showed in winning the Super Bowl has given the best fans in the world real hope and inspiration and I’m truly humbled," Meek is reported as saying.
"I wish my current situation was different, and that I could be with my brothers on that team, and the other Eagles fans, in celebrating this once-in-a-lifetime experience. But I have faith that truth and justice will win out in the end.”
Meek's name became very much synonymous with the under-dog Eagles' run in the weeks leading up to their Super Bowl berth. After defeating the Minnesota Vikings the team was seen celebrating on the field and in the locker room to the single "Dreams and Nightmares." The song became such an anthem to Philly's players that they selected for it to blare from the speakers as they charged out onto the U.S. Bank Stadium field on Sunday, February 4.
