Famed singer and actor Vic Damone passed away at the age of 89, according to his daughter, Victoria Damone. His daughter told the Associated Press that Vic passed away in Florida on Sunday, February 12, from complications from a respiratory illness.
Vic was lauded by Frank Sinatra as having "the best pipes in the business," and his singing talents led to a half-century career of selling millions of albums, along with television, concert, and nightclub appearances. Damone kept performing into his 70s until his illness wouldn't allow him to perform any longer, and he retired to Palm Beach with his wife, Rena Rowan.
Damone also turned down a role to appear in The Godfather, telling the media that the film was “not in the best interests of Italian-Americans.” The role later went to Al Martino. Fans will also remember a scene in Chris Tucker's "Money Talks" where he asks, "Who in the hell is a Vic Damone?" while the singer's greatest hits commercial plays while he's shaving.
Before marrying Rowan, Damone was married to famed singer and actress Diahann Carroll from 1987-1996. He is survived by his daughters Victoria Damone, Andrea Damone-Browne and Daniella Damone-Woodard, his two sisters, Elaine Seneca and Terry Sicuso, and six grandchildren.
