Parents at a Michigan school recently grew outraged upon learning that several students had received racist emails from a peer who is yet to have been identified. In the weeks that have passed since the incident occurred, a number of students have responded with protests as pressure mounts for authorities and administrators to get to the bottom of the matter.

Two of the six young members of the Washtenaw International Middle Academy student body got a hold of and read the January 29 communication before it was deleted from the inboxes of the remaining victims who were targeted.

The letter, which was reportedly sent out at around 3:30 p.m. on a Monday, included multiple uses of the n-word, derided social justice and civil rights activists, and presented veiled threats promising that “one day your kids will get what they deserve being on this land.”

“U need ta [sic] get your n****r loving a** out of here and all this black lives matter bullsh*t,” read one passage from the email, which ended with the writer scribing: “White lives matter….go Trump!!!!”

A couple of the those who essentially wound up being exposed to or hearing about the chilling text in graphic detail wound up staying home some days out of fear. One week later (February 6) a protest that was staged to bring attention to the remarks reportedly swelled to about 50 students and lasted for nearly two hours.

"I want to ensure all involved that we take incidents such as this very seriously and that deputies have been working to identify who the sender of this email was," Washtenaw County Sherriff's Department spokesman Derrick Jackson told reporters when news of the incident broke. "Several students have been questioned as part of the investigation and deputies will continue to gather the facts. Once the investigation has concluded we will then forward our report to the prosecutor."

The school's IT personnel is said to be working vigilantly to trace the messages to an IP address. Due to the usage of student identification numbers, it is believed that the person responsible was fairly familiar with the school's email system.
