Will Smith is the latest celebrity to show love to Marvel's Black Panther. He took to his Instagram account today (February 20) and shouted out the cast and crew of the film.
"What you have done is spectacular," the veteran actor declared after naming the director and stars of the movie. "I watched the film a couple of days ago and damn near got brought to tears. You guys have challenged and potentially even scattered a lot of longtime, longheld, false Hollywood beliefs and paradigms."
Black Panther isn't the first Black superhero film, but it is the first to consist of a predominately Black cast and crew. It's been praised for its representation of Black characters by other prominent figures like former first lady Michelle Obama, director Ava DuVernay, and other Hollywood elites. The film has broken many records in advanced ticket sales and has opened up to give Marvel it's second-biggest opening weekend ever falling only behind The Avengers. The movie is projected to make over 242 million dollars in its four-day weekend.
Will continued, "Congratulations, I've excited damn near giddy. Congrats ya'll go get it," as he placed his arms in an X across his chest, a hand gesture now popularized from the movie. He captioned his video with a quote from Nelson Mandela before writing, "So I say to you, Congratulations! Enjoy this Transcendent Moment. Go into the streets... Touch them... Let them know that you are real!"
Will hit a milestone of his own this weekend garnering over 10 million followers on Instagram in just about two months of using the platform.
