Portland Trailblazers star, Damian Lillard, returned to the basketball court on Friday (March 30) with the relief of knowing that his half-brother is in stable condition and will survive after being shot in Oregon the night prior.
An investigation into exactly what happened outside of Clackamas Town Center late Thursday is still progressing, but what authorities already know is that Jahrell Lillard was fired on by two men in the mall's parking lot at around 9 pm. Witnesses have attested to hearing anywhere between five and ten rounds, and surveillance video shows what the hoodie-wearing pair have on as they approach the unsuspecting 20-year-old - with one suspect decked out in a green sweater and black jeans and the other in a red sweater and white pants.
Several vehicles were damaged in the shooting and Lillard was rushed to the hospital with multiple wounds. Although the incident unfolded as an ambush, investigators suspect that he was the target of a planned attack. To the misfortune of the Lillard family, the near-fatal tragedy came only hours after the victim's NBA All-Star brother and his wife introduced their first child into the world.
“That was probably one of the highest points of my life, my son coming out and holding him, and just having that experience, then having to deal a tragedy in the middle of it, that’s unfortunate,” Lillard told reporters on Friday. “But like I said he’s stable, and he’s doing fine so I guess you’ve got to look at it like things could be a lot worse.”
