Previously, Canelo Alvarez tested positive for a banned substance ahead of his May 5 fight with Gennady "GGG" Golovkin. Now, reports surfaced noting Canelo backed out of the fight with GGG.

According to ESPN, Alvarez tested positive twice for clenbuterol, a banned performance-enhancing substance. When news broke of the boxer testing positive for the substance a few weeks back, Alvarez said in a press conference “I want to apologize to HBO, (sponsors) Tecate and Hennessy and all my other sponsors, the media and to everyone who is involved in the promotion of this event and especially to the fans. I respect this sport. I will always be a clean fighter.”

Since this is Canelo’s first offense, he will get a one-year suspension. However, if he cooperates with the commission his suspension may get reduced to six months.
