A male inmate is teaching feminism to prisoners in Soledad, California. Richard Edmond Vargas, 26, is a convicted felon serving time at an all-male facility (for a crime he committed as a teenager).Vargas, also known as "Richie Reseda", touches on topics such as toxic masculinity.
The documentary The Feminist on Cellblock Y captures Vargas' teachings and ideals. While in prison, he started a group called "Success Stories" which questions "what it is to be a man."
In the video, Vargas is seen writing on a large brown piece of paper with a permanent marker as his fellow inmates gather around -- listening and taking notes. The 10-minute clip also covers his upbringing and how he ended up in prison. The intriguing documentary recently premiered on CNNGo.
