While onstage at I/O 2018 on Tuesday (May 8), CEO Sundar Pichai previewed new capabilities from Google Assitant, including a feature that will make appointments for you that sound like a human. During the preview, the AI Helper called a salon to make a hair appointment, and the person on the other line had no clue that they weren't speaking to a human.
Pichai explained, “The amazing thing is that Assistant can actually understand the nuances of conversation. We’ve been working on this technology for many years. It’s called Google Duplex.”
