Racism is still a very real threat to the freedom of American citizens. America, which isn't even an English word (the nation's name comes from Italian explorer Amerigo Vespucci), is filled with people who think that immigrants are a problem. Some of these people like to harass immigrants and their families about the language they speak, even though English comes from England, and does not originate in this country. Recently, some Spanish speaking customers were harassed at a store in New York this past week.
A video recorded at Fresh Kitchen in Manhattan on Tuesday shows a man dressed in a white collared shirt harassing employees and patrons who were speaking Spanish. "Your staff is speaking Spanish to customers when they should be speaking English," he begins while pointing out the people who were speaking Spanish. "Every person I listen to. He spoke it, he spoke it, she's speaking it. This is America," he continues while gesturing at several people within his vicinity. Customers yelling at the man can be clearly heard in the back, with one patron scoffing at his "This is America," statement.
"My guess is they're not documented. So my next call is to ICE to have each one of them kicked out of my country," that man tells one employee. "If they have the balls to come here and live off my money, I pay for their welfare. I pay for their ability to be here. The least they can do, is speak English." If you think that's bad, the man doesn't stop there.
"If you intend on running a place in Midtown Manhattan, your staff should speak English. Not Spanish," he exclaims towards the employee that chose to confront him. One lady, assumingly of Hispanic descent, who is recording the man gets a piece of his wrath as well. "Honey I'm calling ICE," he states, pointing at the woman. "Maybe you shouldn't eat that sandwich, take a break from the food," he continues, taking a disrespectful stab at the woman's weight.
"Maybe you should get hit by a car," retorts the woman as the racist man storms out of the restaurant.
