Hours after CNN released a report covering the claims of eight women who say that they've been victims of sexual misconduct at the hands of Morgan Freeman, the veteran actor issued a response apologizing for anything he may have ever done to unsettle the women in his company.
“Anyone who knows me or has worked with me knows I am not someone who would intentionally offend or knowingly make anyone feel uneasy. I apologize to anyone who felt uncomfortable or disrespected. That was never my intent,” Freeman said Thursday morning, May 24.
Freeman is under fire for displaying an alleged pattern of harassment that several staffers who've worked the sets of some of his films claim to have witnessed first hand. Some of the accusers, including the co-writer of the article, Chloe Melas, and the co-founder and CEO of his production company, Lori McCreary, had their own memories of Freeman making inappropriate remarks about their clothes.
Melas, for example, reports that he once told her she was "ripe" and that he wished he could have been present the moment she was impregnated - and in McCreary's case, Freeman is said to have implied that she'd be taken more seriously if she gave up her short dresses.
There have also allegedly been instances of Freeman making unwanted physical contact with women, in addition to the numerous cases of him using objectifying language and treading on more sexually suggestive comments and stares.
