Sanofi, the company who makes Ambien, responded to the claims of Rosanne Barr after the comedian blamed the drug for her recent controversial tweet.
On Tuesday, Barr tweeted that Valerie Jarrett, a former Obama White House aide, looked like a “muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby.”
The comments caused an uproar, so much so, ABC canceled Barr’s hit sitcom “Roseanne.”
"Roseanne's Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show,” ABC said in a statement. While she claimed she would take a hiatus from Twitter, early Wednesday morning, Barr said her use of the drug Ambien was the reason for the tweet.
“It was 2 in the morning and I was Ambien tweeting-it was memorial day too-i went 2 far & do not want it defended-it was egregious Indefensible," Barr wrote in a since-deleted tweet. "I made a mistake I wish I hadn't but...don't defend it please."
Sanofi fired back at Barr Wednesday. “People of all races, religions, and nationalities work at Sanofi every day to improve the lives of people around the world,” the company tweeted. “While all pharmaceutical treatments have side effects, racism is not a known side effect of any Sanofi medication.”
