Hip hop may soon see Lil Wayne's long awaited resurgence come to fruition following news that confirms the reaching of a settlement that will grant him permission to part from Cash Money Records so that he may resume with his recording career under Universal Music Group.
The Blast reports that documents it has obtained reveal that Wayne's attorney, Howard King, declared on May 23 that all sides are prepared to dismiss the lawsuit that has kept the New Orleans rap great gridlocked in a bitter feud with Birdman.
Wayne's career has been hanging in the balance since he sued Cash Money some years back over millions of dollars he insists he was owed. In addition to earnings he claims to have been cheated out of, Wayne charges that he was denied an $8 million advance and an additional $2 million payment for the completion of Tha Carter V.
Fans who once highly anticipated Tha Carter V have grown fatigued knowing that Birdman has been sitting on the project in spite of its completion years ago. Thanks to the music giant stepping up to satisfy each party's demands with a check that is said to amount to "well over $10 million," Universal now assumes rights to release the storied album.
