History was made Tuesday when president Trump met with President of North Korea Kim Jung Un in Singapore. Footage of the two leaders showed Trump and Kim approach each other before the two extended their hands for a shake while a melange of United States and North Korean flags framed the background.
Trump later said the talks were going "very, very good" and described the meeting as an "excellent relationship" after emerging 38 minutes after beginning talks with the dictator.
"Working together, we'll get it taken care of," said the president.
In another peculiar mark of the day, Dennis Rodman - one of the few Americans to have met with president Kim - openly wept during an interview with CNN's Chris Cuomo.
"President Trump should understand the fact that the reason the Marshal of North Korea [Kim Jong Un] respects Dennis Rodman is the fact that he trusts me, and I gave him something for his birthday -- and I thought I couldn't pull this off -- and I said the day before his birthday, I'm gonna give you a present," said the former NBA great.
"Many people in the world will think of this as a (inaudible) form of fantasy ... from a science fiction movie," said Kim's translator while the dictator walked down a colonnade with Trump.
"I feel really great. We'll have a great discussion," said Trump as the talks got underway. "This will be tremendously successful," he continued. "We will have a terrific relationship."
