Violence ripped through Chicago over the weekend, with 71 people reported shot, 11 fatally. This comes after the city was reporting 23% less murders than last year and 19% fewer shootings overall.
In a near 7-hour span from Saturday night into Sunday morning, 39 people were shot, including a group of eight people standing in a courtyard of a building in the city's South Side, who were wounded after someone opened fire. Police say victims ranged from 14-35 and no one was in custody in the case so far.
It was also reported that police have not been able to make arrests or solve murders, with the city having a 20% clearance rate. Protesters angry with the ongoing violence in the city gathered for a protest last week and called for Mayor Rahm Emanuel's resignation before he's up for reelection in February.
Chicago PD held a press conference following the shootings, which you can view above.
