Update: Marine veteran Ian David Long, 28, was identified as the shooter who killed twelve people at a Thousand Oaks bar popular with college students. According to reports, Long used a .45 caliber handgun in the incident and was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound inside of the bar. 

Ventura County Sheriff Geoff Dean revealed that police had contact with Long over the years, as he was a victim of a battery at a local Thousand Oaks bar and was involved in two traffic accidents. Police were also called to his home in Newbury Park in 2018 for a domestic incident where he was "somewhat irate and acting irrationally."

Twelve people were killed and several others were injured after a gunman opened fire at a college bar in Thousand Oaks, California on Wednesday (November 7) night. 

According to reports, among those dead is Sheriff’s Sgt. Ron Helus, who was one of the first people on the scene. The shooter, who has been described as a 29-year-old white man, was found dead inside of the bar.
