JR Smith and the Cleveland Cavaliers have parted ways following the 15-year NBA veteran's statement about the team not trying to win games this season and saying he wants out.
Smith stated, "I don't think the goal is to win. The goal isn't to go out there and try to get as many wins as you can. I think the goal is to develop and lose to get lottery picks. I think that was always the plan." When he was asked about wanting to be a part of the team moving forward, he said, "Not if the goal isn't to compete, to win."
The Cavs later issued a statement on their decision to part ways with Smith, which read, "The organization wishes JR and his family well and appreciates and thanks him for his contributions in the community, to the team and his role in the 2016 NBA Championship."
More details to come.
