Houston Texans' owner Bob McNair has died at the age of 80. The Texans owner amassed his wealth through energy plants and established the Texans franchise in Houston after the Oilers left town for Nashville. McNair died after a long-term battle with skin cancer and was surrounded by his close family.

McNair was embroiled in controversy after making incendiary comments regarding NFL player protests, and their ability to hold such protests before the games. McNair said, "you can't have the inmates running the prison." The comments emboldened many more players to protest, including Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins who skipped practice the week of McNair's comments.
