The explosive docu-series Surviving R. Kelly was set to premiere at Neuhouse Madison Square on Tuesday night, yet before the viewing could be seen by droves of #MeToo advocates in attendance, the building had to be evacuated for a gun threat.
According to reports, "Several anonymous calls were phoned in," with one caller deliberately making a threat to fire a gun in the audience if the premiere continued. "As a precaution, we evacuated," a representative from Lifetime said in a released statement, "Tonight's all about the safety for everyone - we're not even sure what to do next."
The docu-series comprises interviews with Kelly's accusers as well as people from his inner circle, and it seeks to provide a comprehensive look at the singer's alleged history of mental and sexual abuse.
Although the calls were all listed as anonymous, Lifetime has confirmed that the threat in question was phoned in from Chicago.
