Update 12/07/2018: Kevin Hart announced on Twitter that he is stepping down as this year's host at the Oscars after telling fans on Instagram that he's explained his tweets several times. He wrote, "I have made the choice to step down from hosting this year's Oscar's....this is because I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazing talented artists. I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past."

Kevin Hart's old anti-gay tweets that were unearthed caused a stir on Thursday which apparently put the comedian's chances of hosting the 2019 Oscars in jeopardy. According to Kevin, he received a call from the Academy imploring him to apologize for his past tweets but Hart refused to comply. He cited his repeated acknowledgment of the tweets and his past remarks addressing the situation. Hart explained that the Academy would consider other candidates to host the award show in place of Kevin Hart if he didn't comply.
