Vladimir Putin recently made comments about hip-hop, and made it clear that he isn’t in support of the artwork. In comments he made this past Saturday, Putin said “rap is based on three pillars: sex, drugs and protest,” and will reportedly lead to the “degradation of the nation.”
Putin’s comments surfaced after the arrest of popular Russian rapper Husky, whose music reportedly has irritated the politician. Putin noted that he wants to stop but if that can’t happen, then it should be controlled. Putin said, “If it is impossible to stop, then we must lead it and direct it.”
Legendary hip-hop rapper Kurtis Blow commented on Putin’s statement, saying he should “rethink his policy” and that his policy will “fuel the fire of the resistance in his country.” He also said that people “don’t want to be silenced.”
