Wade Winn, 23, appeared before a judge in Clermont County, OH on Monday after his 12-hour standoff with authorities left two officers shot, one of whom was fatally wounded. The ordeal stemmed from what police are characterizing as an ambush after Winn faked a suicide attempt.
Assistant Prosecutor Darren Miller stated: "This case started when the defendant called 911 indicating his home was being burglarized. Law enforcement officers responded. Your honor, the defendant refused to exit his home. He was observed to have weapons. As a result, the Clermont County Special Response Team responded and set up a perimeter and tried to convince the defendant to leave his apartment."
However, Miller said Winn's intended on setting up the deputies from the outset, stating that officers "entered the defendant's apartment in what they believed would be in effort to render aid, and potentially save the defendant's life, but not only had the defendant not attempted suicide, he was waiting in ambush for the officers and the special response team."
Winn's bond is currently set at $10 million.
