Today is a sad day within the boxing community, as one of the sports' legends has passed away at the age of 60. His family confirmed Lockridge's passing, revealing that his death was caused by complications from a previous stroke.
Lockridge rose to fame in the early 1980s, when he knocked out Floyd Mayweather's uncle, Roger Mayweather, in just over 90 seconds with a vicious left hook and an overhand right that sent him to the canvas. For that victory, Lockridge earned the WBA and lineal super featherweight titles, while he later won the IBF super featherweight title.
“I never thought I’d win this so quickly," Lockridge said at the time after defeating Mayweather, "but I’m really amazed by how much strength I have in this weight division.” Lockridge went on to have a professional record of 44-9 with 36 knockouts.
After his career, however, Lockridge was reportedly living on the streets of Camden, New Jersey, before appearing on an episode of A&E's Intervention, where after sharing a heartfelt moment with his son, he let out an outpour of emotion that was dubbed on the internet as "the best cry ever."
His son, Ricky Lockridge, confirmed his passing by saying: "It is with great pain but a whole heart that I tell you, family, and friends that my father Ricky Lockridge aka Rocky Lockridge has passed away."
